Restaurateur

Gaby Alves

an imageGrowing up near Sao Paulo in Brazil, Gaby’s first entrepreneurial pursuit began at age 19 when she left the world of professional volleyball to bake and sell fresh bread across town from the back of her motorbike. Since then she never looked back. After successfully opening and running two of the city’s most successful bars and restaurants she packed up for the UK to widen her business horizons. Working her way up the ladder in various hotels and restaurants Gaby then headed to Bristol to complete a degree in hospitality and restaurant management majoring in wine and service. Packing up once again Gaby arrived in Beijing in 2004 to open Alameda. Voted Beijing’s Best Restaurant by That’s Beijing readers three years in a row and receiving international acclaim from the world’s leading cuisine critics attests to the restaurant’s overwhelming success. Continuing her studies in wine and selling her share in Alameda in early 2007 Gaby is now proud to present SALT - a culmination of 15 years of experience and hard work. Since opening, SALT has been awarded That’s Bejing’s Restaurant of the Year (Western), Best Service and Best Contemporary Cuisine and City Weekend gave Best New Restaurant and Best Contemporary Cuisine. Gaby and SALT have been featured on various international TV programs and SALT was listed by the New York Times as a Beijing “hot spot”. Gaby and her team are now heading towards the 2 year mark and are looking forward to raising the bar even higher with a bright 3rd year ahead.
